How to Reheat Scones
Are you craving the warm, buttery goodness of freshly baked scones but find yourself with leftovers or unbaked dough? With the right methods and a few helpful tips, you can enjoy scones any time of the day. If you’re having an afternoon tea or just want to eat some extra scones, here’s everything you need to know about reheating scones.
1. Storing Scones:
Before we get into reheating, let’s talk about storage. Proper storage ensures your scones maintain their soft texture and delicious flavor. For fresh-baked scones, allow them to cool completely at room temperature. Then, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or store them in an airtight container. This prevents staleness and preserves freshness for up to 1-2 days.
If you’ve baked a whole batch of fresh scones or have extra dough, freezing is a great option for extended shelf life. After cooling, wrap individual scones or the entire batch in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer bag or airtight container for an extra layer of protection. I like to freeze unbaked scones and then pop them into the oven from frozen.
Label with the date for easy tracking. Frozen scones can last for several weeks, maintaining their quality when properly stored. For more details check out my post on freezing scones.
3. Reheating Methods:
When it comes to reheating scones, there are several methods to choose from, depending on your preference and what you have in your kitchen. Here are some simple steps for the best results:
Preheated Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place scones on a baking sheet lined with a sheet of parchment paper.
- Warm for 5-8 minutes until heated through.
- This method works well for both fresh and frozen scones.
Toaster Oven:
- Warm your toaster oven to a low heat setting.
- Place scones on a baking tray.
- Warm for a couple of minutes until heated to your liking.
- Keep a close eye to prevent overheating or toasting, especially for delicate scones.
Air Fryer:
- Preheat your air fryer to 325°F (160°C).
- Arrange scones in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Heat for 3-5 minutes until warmed through.
- This method creates a crisp exterior while keeping the interior soft.
4. Serving Suggestions:
Once reheated, serve your scones with a dollop of clotted cream, a drizzle of melted butter, or your favorite jam. Pair them with a cup of tea or coffee for the perfect treat on a special occasion or really any time of day.
If I’m being fully honest, the best way to enjoy warm scones is right out of the oven, but sometimes you make large batch of scones and have leftovers. Luckily reheating scones is simple & easy. With my tips, you can enjoy the warm, delicious treat of freshly baked scones anytime.
